The story was first reported by Crunchyroll and other anime media sites. Netflix last night announced on their NXonNetflix twitter page that they have acquired worldwide streaming rights to the Evangelion franchise. That means the anime series and a a few subsequent films will be added. Reports suggest that the launch will take place in the spring of 2019.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is the anime that first aired in Japan in 1995. It’s about the futuristic city of Tokyo-3 after the fallout and destruction of the city. Now, the city is technologically adaptable with an underground military known as Nerv. Here they build bio-mecha to combat alien beings known as, “Angels.” These mecha can only be piloted by particular humans with mental and physical fortitude. The story follows the lives of Nerv, the pilots as the main characters, and battles with Angels.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the franchise or re-watched much of it. The show is from the 90’s and looks nothing like anime of today. Animation wise it doesn’t hold up but it still looks good enough art wise. The story is still super good and solid. The movie Pacific Rim has ties back to the anime also and gives that same vibe. The anime still has it’s mystique, culture, and fandom going strong today. It’s good that more people now can catch one of the classics in anime.
